Stable isotopes can be used to trace the environmental and geographic origin and migration of modern and archaeological humans and animals; they can also provide valuable information about human diet. The module will introduce students to stable isotope analysis and data interpretation. The lab component will include the extraction and preparation of bone collagen and keratinous body tissue for isotopic analysis and radiocarbon dating.
